AREA
CONTROL PROCEDURAL COURSE
This course aims to provide trainees with knowledge, skills and attitude required as an Area Control Procedural Controller to prepare them for On-The-Job Training leading to a validation at an Area Control Centre.
The acquisition of local procedures at a specific unit must take place at the particular unit during the OJT period, in accordance with the Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) of:
- International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO)
- ICAO Annex 1 Personnel Licencing
- Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).

Note: All participants must achieve a score of 70% or above on all the subject modules.

Practical: Area Control Procedural Training Device Simulator (Visual 3D)
Course Objective
Upon completion of this course, trainees will be able to:
- Manage an orderly flow of at least 15 aircraft within the specified area of responsibilities within 45 minutes;
- Apply operational control and planning techniques and procedures to ensure a safe, orderly and expeditious service to arriving, holding, departing and transiting aircraft;
- Handle emergency and other abnormal situations;
- Use correct radiotelephony (RTF) phraseology;
- Carry out proper coordination with other units.
Upon satisfactory demonstrated a level of knowledge appropriate to the privileges granted, participants shall be eligible to obtain an Air Traffic Control rating comprised of the Area Control Procedural Rating categories.
