ICAO 055 — Advanced Course

Area Control Procedural

From theory to the operations room. This course instils the fundamental knowledge, applied skills, and professional attitude required to progress toward a validated Area Control Procedural rating on your ATC Licence.

Duration of Course:
11 Weeks

Course Overview

This intensive training program is engineered to equip trainees with the essential knowledge, core operational skills, and professional attitude required to successfully transition to on-the-job training (OJT), culminating in an ATC License with an Area Control Procedural rating.

Fully aligned with the rigorous standards of ICAO Doc 4444, this course seamlessly blends theoretical depth with progressive practical simulation.

  • Master procedural (non-radar) separation standards within en-route environments.
  • Develop flawless coordination protocols and flight progress strip management.
  • Cultivate cognitive resilience to manage complex traffic flows and unexpected airspace emergencies safely and efficiently.

Course Curriculum

  1. The AvAC Area Control Procedural curriculum transitions trainees from theoretical principles to operational mastery.

Trainees must demonstrate a high level of proficiency and knowledge in the following core subjects:

    • Area Control Procedural Theory: Operational concepts, sectorization, and airspace classifications specific to en-route environments.
    • Separation Standards: Deep operational command of procedural separation minima (vertical, lateral, and longitudinal time/distance separations).
    • Air Traffic Management Framework: Comprehensive application of ICAO Doc 4444 and regional regulatory provisions.
    • Flight Operations: Managing mixed IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) and VFR (Visual Flight Rules) traffic within procedural airspace.
    • Standardized Phraseologies: Strict adherence to international aviation phraseology tailored for Area Control Procedural communications.
    • Abnormal & Emergency Situations: Theoretical frameworks for managing non-routine airspace events.

Simulator Training

Our immersive, high-intensity simulator instruction effectively bridges the gap between classroom theory and safety-critical en-route management.

Training blocks focus on:

  • Hands-on Procedural Control: Active application of non-radar separation standards, complex arrival/departure sequencing, and efficient, proactive flight progress strip management.
  • Stress & Workload Management: Realistic practical simulation of high-density traffic windows, complex inter-sector coordination, and multi-aircraft conflicts.
  • Emergency Response Simulation: High-stress tactical training handling aircraft abnormalities, ground communication/navigation equipment failures, and severe weather deviations.

Rigorous Evaluation Standards

Trainee progress is continuously monitored across all training checkpoints, culminating in comprehensive formal written and practical examinations.

A strict 70% passing benchmark is enforced across all final evaluations to secure official accreditation.

Pre-requisite

  • The applicant shall have successfully completed Basic/ Primary ATC or equivalent; or
  • as determined by Civil Aviation Authority or other states Regulator/ Air Navigation Service Provider.
