APPROACH CONTROL SURVEILLANCE COURSE
OVERVIEW
This course aims to provide trainees with knowledge, skills and attitude required as an Approach Surveillance Controller to prepare them for On-The-Job Training leading to a validation at an Approach Control Surveillance Unit.
The acquisition of local procedures at a specific unit must take place at the particular unit during the OJT period, in accordance with the Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) of:
Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).
- International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO)
- ICAO Annex 1 Personnel Licencing
Audience
Identified trainees by ANSPs who will undergo subsequent ICAO courses to be an ATC personnel.
Pre requisites
Trainees who have completed and passed the Primary ATC Course (ICAO 051) from an Air Traffic Control – Approved Training Organisation (ATC-ATO).
language & duration
English and will take up to 11 weeks.
assestment
Oral, Theoretical, and Practical (Simulator) Examinations.

the ability to manage the specified workload demand within the specified Approach Surveillance area of responsibility;
demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the topics detailed in ICAO Annex 1 and ICAO Doc 4444, equivalent, to the standard nominated by the trainee’s ATS State Regulatory Authority;
demonstrate on a Approach Control Surveillance simulator:
- the application of operational planning control techniques and procedures to ensure a safe, orderly and expeditious service to arriving, holding, departing and transiting aircraft;
Upon satisfactory demonstrated a level of knowledge appropriate to the privileges granted, participants shall be eligible to obtain an Air Traffic Control rating comprised of the Approach Control Surveillance Rating categories.
